A crawl proxy is a type of proxy server dedicated to web crawling. It acts as a server that mediates between the web crawling tool (client) and the website being crawled. When a crawling tool sends a request to a website, it first passes through the proxy server, which then forwards the request to the website. The response from the website also passes through the proxy before reaching the crawling tool.

Crawling proxies can be categorised into the following types based on their usage:

-Site-specific crawling proxies: Site-specific crawling proxies are optimised for specific websites.
-Data collection crawling agents: data collection crawling agents are used to collect specific types of data.
